The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for an area including Marshall, DeKalb, Etowah, Calhoun, Cherokee and Blount counties. Showers and isolated thunderstorms will continue to move northward across the region as a strong low-pressure system approaches from the Gulf Coast. A few of the storms during the afternoon and evening could become strong to severe with strong to damaging wind gusts. A brief tornado is also possible. Periods of locally heavy rain are also expected and could cause a few instances of flash flooding.
