If you can’t remember the last time you took a day off, this is for you. Here are 4 reasons to take a “mental health day”:
• First: It makes you more productive. Harvard University researchers found that encouraging people to take time off actually increased employee performance. It also raised levels of customer satisfaction.
• Another reason to take a break: You’ll live longer. A study in the journal Psychosomatic Medicine shows that people who regularly take time off from work have a lower risk of dying prematurely.
• It’ll also lead to: Better relationships. A survey found that 3 out of 4 couples say that vacationing with their spouse is one of the best ways to keep the romance alive.
• And finally: The occasional day off makes the benefits of your regular vacation last longer. A study in the Journal of Organizational Behavior found that the positive effects of a vacation wear off in about a month. But workers who scheduled a day off every few weeks saw their productivity increase to fresh-off-their-vacation levels.
