Gadsden Cautious Over Wind Turbines

Gadsden Council supports legislation by State Senator Phil Williams of Rainbow City to regulate proposed wind turbines proposed for Cherokee and Etowah Counties. It would require permitting before turbines could be built and would require companies to show they have the money to remove them if they aren’t used. Currently there are no laws regulating wind turbines in Alabama, and critics here say they are taller than the Washington Monument, could be set up near people’s homes, and northeast Alabama lacks the constant winds necessary to make them efficient.
