Former first lady Laura Bush spoke out Sunday about what she called the “cruel” and “immoral” separation of families on the US border, writing a harsh criticism of President Trump’s zero-tolerance immigration policy in a Washington Post opinion piece. In a rare statement on a policy issue, first lady Melania Trump also weighed in on the matter. Her spokesman said [quote] “Mrs. Trump hates to see children separated from their families… She believes we need to be a country that follows all laws, but also a country that governs with heart.” [end quote]

Alabama became part of an intensely partisan confrontation when it filed a lawsuit opposing the counting of undocumented immigrants for congressional reapportionment in the 2020 U.S. Census. Critics suggest that Alabama– much like the Trump Administration and the federal government through its decision to back a citizenship question on the 2020 Census form– is aiming to “weaponize” the tabulation process for conservative’s political gain.

From the Sand Mountain Reporter; the Whole Backstage Community Theatre in Guntersville recently held a dedication ceremony for a very special United States flag and vintage flagpole, at the “Old Rock School.” Congressman Robert Aderholt presented an American flag that was flown over the nation’s capitol in Washington, D.C. Johnny Brewer, Whole Backstage director Johnny Brewer has been pursuing the replacement since 2003.
